Executive Summary
When families can access safe, stable, and affordable housing in neighborhoods of their choosing, children are healthier, more secure, and better able to thrive. Yet systemic inequities and chronic underinvestment have left millions of families, disproportionately families of color, without access to this foundation. At a moment when bold federal action is urgently needed to expand housing assistance and preserve and create affordable homes, proposed cuts and added restrictions to critically important housing programs threaten to deepen instability, increase unaffordability, and widen inequities. Disinvestment in housing harms the health and well-being of our children and families, and ripples through communities across the entire country. Ensuring every child can grow up in a safe and affordable home must remain a national priority.
